Your 10 days in Namibia.

Our most popular itinerary length — it covers the essential highlights while allowing genuine time at each destination.

Day1
Arrive Windhoek
Arrival & City Orientation
Fly into Hosea Kutako International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Windhoek. Explore the city's German colonial architecture, visit the Independence Memorial Museum, browse the craft market, and enjoy dinner at one of the excellent restaurants in the city centre. Full trip briefing and documentation provided at check-in.

Day2
Windhoek → Sossusvlei (±5 hrs)
Crossing the Namib
Drive south through the arid highlands, passing through Rehoboth and Mariental before turning west into the desert. The landscape flattens and opens dramatically as you enter the Namib. Arrive Sesriem mid-afternoon — enough time to explore the Sesriem Canyon before a sunset walk on Elim Dune just outside camp.

Day3
Sossusvlei — Full Day
Dead Vlei at Dawn
Early gate access — drive to Dune 45 for sunrise, then to Dead Vlei. Walk the 1 km from the 2×4 car park in soft morning light. The dunes glow amber-red; the ancient camel thorn skeletons cast long shadows on white clay. Return before midday heat. Afternoon rest, then optional climb of Dune 45's full ridge as the light softens for another round of photography.

Day4
Sossusvlei — Second Morning
Big Daddy & Hidden Vlei
A second full day in the park — the advantage of the 10-day itinerary. Tackle Big Daddy (325m) for the exhilarating run down into Dead Vlei from above, then walk to Hidden Vlei for a quieter, often deserted alternative pan. Afternoon at leisure, packing and preparing for the drive north tomorrow.

Day5
Sossusvlei → Swakopmund (±3.5 hrs)
Desert to Atlantic
Drive north via Solitaire and through the Kuiseb Canyon. The transition from desert to coastal fog is dramatic — warm sand gives way to cold Atlantic air as you descend to the coast. Arrive Swakopmund by early afternoon. Explore the jetty, the beach boardwalk, and the excellent museum. Dinner at one of the waterfront restaurants.

Day6
Swakopmund — Activities
The Adventure Capital
Full day for Swakopmund activities. The Living Desert morning tour is highly recommended — a guide takes you into the dunes to find desert-adapted creatures. Afternoon: choose from sandboarding, quad biking, a kayak trip to see seals at Pelican Point, or a catamaran cruise from Walvis Bay with dolphins and flamingo. The town's restaurants and bars are excellent for a celebratory evening.

Day7
Swakopmund → Cape Cross → Damaraland
Skeleton Coast Day
Drive north along the Skeleton Coast — stop at Cape Cross Seal Reserve for one of Africa's most visceral wildlife spectacles (200,000+ seals). Continue past rusting shipwrecks and into the Brandberg area of Damaraland for an overnight stop. En route, watch for desert-adapted oryx and springbok on the open plains and the sudden drama of the Brandberg massif rising from the flat horizon.

Day8
Damaraland → Etosha (±3.5 hrs)
Rock Art & the Game Park
Morning visit to Twyfelfontein — one of Africa's finest concentrations of San rock engravings, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Browse the ancient etchings of giraffe, rhino, and elephant carved thousands of years ago. Then drive to Etosha, entering through the King Nehale gate. Afternoon game drive arriving from the east side — Namutoni and the Klein Namutoni waterhole await.

Day9
Etosha — Full Game Day
Wildlife at the Waterholes
Full day of game drives — early morning, midday waterhole waits, and an afternoon circuit finishing at the Okaukuejo floodlit waterhole for sundowners. By this point in the trip, the pace is slower and more meditative. Watch elephant families for an hour. Wait for the lion that may or may not appear. Spend the night at the viewing platform hoping for black rhino — it very often delivers.

Final Dawn Drive & Homeward
One last early morning game drive before departure — cheetah are often spotted in the open grassy areas near Okaukuejo in the first hour of light. Check out and drive south to Windhoek (±5 hours) for evening flights, or overnight in Windhoek for a final market visit before flying the following morning. Your Alux contact will coordinate all final logistics.

Good to Know

Notes for this itinerary.

Extra Sossusvlei day
The key advantage of 10 days over 7 is the second full day in Sossusvlei. Big Daddy alone justifies the extra night — you simply cannot rush it.
Skeleton Coast routing
The Cape Cross detour adds around 2 hours to the Swakopmund-to-Damaraland drive but is one of the most extraordinary wildlife experiences in Namibia. We always recommend it.
Fits Signature package
This route is designed around our Signature package — semi-private guided game drives in Etosha, premium lodge accommodation, and a dedicated trip contact throughout.
Want 14 days?
Extend with Fish River Canyon in the south, NamibRand for stargazing, or an extra 2 nights in Etosha. See our 14-day itinerary for the complete Namibia circuit.

Common Questions About the 10-day Route

How does the 10-day route differ from the 7-day?
The 10-day adds Damaraland — desert-adapted elephants, ancient rock engravings at Twyfelfontein, and the most cinematic landscape in northern Namibia — between Swakopmund and Etosha. It is the most popular length for first-time Namibia travellers who want pace without rushing.

What lodges are typically used on the 10-day itinerary?
Signature-tier picks include Little Kulala or Kulala Desert Lodge at Sossusvlei; Strand Hotel or The Delight in Swakopmund; Mowani Mountain Camp or Camp Kipwe in Damaraland; and Ongava Lodge, Onguma Bush Camp, or Mushara Outpost at Etosha. Ultra-Premium routes upgrade to andBeyond, Wilderness, or Wolwedans-tier properties.

Can we add the Skeleton Coast to the 10-day route?
Adding Skeleton Coast typically requires extending to 12–14 days. The northern Skeleton Coast is fly-in only and demands a 2–3 night minimum. We can stretch a 10-day to include the southern (drive-accessible) Skeleton Coast around Cape Cross and Henties Bay without lengthening — see our 14-day itinerary for full coverage.

Is the 10-day Namibia safari ideal for first-time Africa travellers?
Yes — it is the most-recommended length for first-time visitors. Seven days feels rushed if you want to absorb each location; fourteen days is a meaningful jump in budget. Ten days hits the sweet spot for Sossusvlei, Damaraland, and Etosha at an unhurried pace.

What is included beyond accommodation and game drives?
Standard inclusions: all in-country transfers (vehicle or light aircraft), professional guiding, accommodation on a half-board or full-board basis depending on tier, conservation and park fees, and listed activities. Excluded: international flights, premium beverages at some lodges, optional helicopter flights, and gratuities.

Can the 10-day itinerary work for honeymooners?
Excellently. We default to king-bed configurations, route through couple-aligned properties (Mowani for Damaraland; Little Kulala for Sossusvlei; Ongava for Etosha), and arrange honeymoon touches — sundowner picnics, in-suite dining, scenic flights — by default once we know you are travelling for a honeymoon.
