Our most comprehensive standard itinerary — it covers every major landscape and leaves you with a complete picture of this extraordinary country.

Day1
Arrive Windhoek
Arrival & City
Fly into Hosea Kutako and transfer to Windhoek. Explore the city: the Christuskirche, craft market, and Independence Memorial Museum. Full trip documentation and briefing at your hotel. Dinner at one of Windhoek's excellent restaurants. Tomorrow starts the long push south.

Day2
Windhoek → Fish River Canyon (±6 hrs)
South to the Canyon
Drive south through the farming communities of Mariental and Keetmanshoop. Stop at the Quivertree Forest near Keetmanshoop — a surreal landscape of aloe dichotoma trees glowing golden in the late afternoon. Continue to your lodge near the canyon rim for a first glimpse at sunset.

Day3
Fish River Canyon — Full Day
Africa's Grand Canyon
Sunrise at the main viewpoint — the canyon layers glow red and gold as the light hits the ancient rock. At 160 km long and up to 550 metres deep, it is the second-largest canyon on Earth. Walk the rim between the main viewpoint and Hobas, watching for klipspringer and mountain zebra on the ledges below. Evening sundowners on the rim — the stars here are extraordinary.

Day4
Fish River Canyon → Lüderitz (±3 hrs)
The Ghost Diamond Town
Drive west to the remote harbour town of Lüderitz — a pocket of preserved German colonial architecture at the edge of the world. The main attraction is Kolmanskop, a former diamond-mining town abandoned in the 1950s and now being swallowed by sand dunes. A guided tour through the half-buried houses, ballroom, and hospital is one of Namibia's most surreal and photogenic experiences.

Day5
Lüderitz → Sossusvlei (±4.5 hrs)
Into the Namib
Drive north along the C13 and D707 — some of Namibia's most dramatic gravel road scenery. The Namib plains open before you as you approach Sesriem. Arrive mid-afternoon, settle in, and walk Elim Dune for sunset. This is the third type of Namibian landscape in 5 days — the variety of this country begins to sink in.

Sossusvlei — Full Day
Dead Vlei & the Dunes
Early gate access. Dawn at Dune 45, then walk to Dead Vlei in the first hour of light. The morning is for photography and hiking; midday for rest. Late afternoon: tackle the full Big Daddy climb (325m) and run the face straight down into Dead Vlei — one of the most physically exhilarating moments in any Namibia itinerary.

Day7
Sossusvlei — Second Day
Hidden Vlei & NamibRand
A second full day to explore at leisure. Morning: walk to Hidden Vlei (quieter, deserted, equally atmospheric). Afternoon: drive into the NamibRand Nature Reserve if staying at a lodge there — one of southern Africa's designated Dark Sky Reserves. After sunset, the Milky Way arches across the sky in extraordinary clarity. A night guide helps you identify constellations in the southern hemisphere sky.

Day8
Sossusvlei → Swakopmund (±3.5 hrs)
Desert to the Atlantic
Drive north via Solitaire and through the Gaub and Kuiseb Canyons. The road transitions from sand to fog as the Atlantic appears. Arrive Swakopmund early afternoon. Settle in and explore — the jetty walk, the German bakeries, the Swakopmund Museum. Evening dinner at a waterfront restaurant with cold Namibian beer. A welcome change of scene and temperature.

Day9
Swakopmund — Activities Day
The Adventure Capital
Full day for Swakopmund experiences. The Living Desert morning tour is unmissable — tracking desert-adapted wildlife in the dunes. Afternoon: kayaking to see seals at Pelican Point, a catamaran cruise in Walvis Bay with dolphins and flamingo, or sandboarding. Alternatively, take a guided Mondesa Township tour for a deeper look at the community that makes up most of Swakopmund's population.

Day10
Swakopmund → Cape Cross → Damaraland
Skeleton Coast & Desert Elephants
Drive north — stop at Cape Cross Seal Reserve for one of Africa's most overwhelming wildlife spectacles, then continue into Damaraland. Afternoon visit to Twyfelfontein, Namibia's UNESCO World Heritage Site and finest concentration of San rock engravings — 6,000+ individual etchings of animals and geometric patterns carved into red sandstone over millennia.

Day11
Damaraland — Full Day
Desert Elephants & the Brandberg
A full day in Damaraland — one of the most underrated days of the entire trip. Track desert-adapted elephants with a guide through the dry riverbeds. Visit the Brandberg massif and, with a good guide, find the White Lady rock painting (4,000 years old) in its sheltered ravine. The landscape is unlike anything else in Namibia — ancient black dolerite boulders, red rock inselbergs, and vast gravel plains.

Day12
Damaraland → Etosha (±3 hrs)
Into the Game Park
Drive east to Etosha, entering through the Galton Gate. Afternoon game drive in the western section — lion and cheetah territory. The Salvadora and Gemsbokvlakte waterholes on the pan edge are excellent for predator sightings. Settle in at Okaukuejo camp and spend the evening at the floodlit waterhole — elephant, lion, and black rhino all appear here regularly after dark.

Day13
Etosha — Full Game Day
Dawn to Dusk in Africa's Best Park
A full uninterrupted day of game driving. Traverse the full circuit from Okaukuejo to Halali to Namutoni. Stop at Chudop (famous for enormous elephant herds), Rietfontein (leopard and cheetah country), and Klein Namutoni (kudu and hornbills). Return to Okaukuejo for the final night waterhole session — at this point in the trip, you know exactly how to read the animals, and this is often the most rewarding game session of the entire journey.

Etosha → Windhoek → Depart
Final Drive & Farewell
Dawn game drive — early morning is often the best time for cheetah activity on the open plains. Check out and drive south to Windhoek (±5 hours). Stop for lunch at a farm stall en route. Afternoon arrival in Windhoek for evening flights, or overnight for morning departures. Your Alux Travel contact will be in touch the day before to confirm all final timings and ensure your journey home is seamless.

Good to Know

Notes for this itinerary.

The full circuit
This itinerary loops Namibia completely — south from Windhoek, west to the coast, north through Damaraland, and into Etosha. It covers all six major landscape types in one journey.
Road conditions
Mostly good tar with some gravel sections in the south and Damaraland. A high-clearance 4×4 is recommended for the full route. All our packages include appropriate vehicle arrangements.
Best season
This circuit works year-round. May–October is optimal for Etosha wildlife viewing. November–April brings lush green landscapes and excellent photography light in the Namib and south.

Common Questions About the 14-day Route

What does the 14-day route cover that shorter trips do not?
The 14-day adds the Skeleton Coast, Damaraland, and Etosha at unhurried pace, plus the option of the Caprivi/Zambezi panhandle in the far north. It is the most complete circuit of Namibia we offer, with room for fly-in transfers, scenic flights, and lodge upgrades that compress poorly into shorter routes.

Is the 14-day Namibia safari ideal for honeymoons?
Yes — it is our most-booked honeymoon length. Pace is gentle, the route weighted toward romantic, secluded properties, and the schedule allows two nights per stop in most regions, so couples decompress between transfers.

Can we add fly-in transfers between regions on the 14-day?
Yes. Most Ultra-Premium 14-day routes use light aircraft between three or four sectors — typically Sossusvlei to Damaraland to Etosha to Skeleton Coast. Fly-in saves 20–25 hours of road time and unlocks lodges with private airstrips that are otherwise impractical to reach.

What is the typical pace of the 14-day route?
Two nights at every major stop, occasionally three. There is at least one full rest day per week with no transfers. The 14-day is built for travellers who want depth at each location rather than checklist coverage.

What is the deposit and final-payment schedule for the 14-day?
A 25–30% deposit confirms the booking. The balance is due 60 days before arrival. For Ultra-Premium routes that include fly-in concessions, some lodges require a non-refundable supplementary deposit at confirmation; we flag this clearly on every quote.

Can the 14-day route be combined with Victoria Falls?
Yes. We frequently extend the 14-day with 2–3 nights at Victoria Falls (Zambia or Zimbabwe side), or pair the 14-day with a Botswana Okavango Delta extension. These multi-country itineraries are quoted alongside the Namibia portion.
