Your 7 days in Namibia.

This is a guide itinerary — all routes, lodges, and timing are adjusted to your travel dates, pace, and interests.

Day1
Arrive Windhoek
Arrival & Orientation
Fly into Hosea Kutako International Airport and transfer to your guesthouse or boutique hotel in Windhoek. Spend the afternoon exploring the city centre — the Christuskirche, the craft market at the Namibian Craft Centre, and the excellent Joe's Beerhouse for dinner. Your trip briefing documents and travel pack will be ready at check-in. Early night ahead of a long drive day tomorrow.

Day2
Windhoek → Sossusvlei (±5 hrs)
Into the Namib Desert
Depart early and drive south through the Namibian highlands, dropping onto the arid Namib plains as the landscape transforms from acacia scrub to open desert. Arrive at Sesriem in the late afternoon — check in, freshen up, then drive the short distance to Elim Dune for your first Namib sunset. The silence and scale of the desert at dusk is the perfect introduction to what awaits tomorrow morning.

Day3
Sossusvlei — Full Day
Dunes, Dead Vlei & Sesriem Canyon
Rise before dawn and enter the park at first light (lodge guests have gate priority). Drive to Dune 45 for sunrise — then continue to the 2×4 car park and walk to Dead Vlei. The combination of white clay, ancient black tree skeletons, and towering orange dunes in morning light is like nowhere else on Earth. Return by 10:00 AM as midday heat becomes extreme. Afternoon rest, then explore Sesriem Canyon in the late afternoon golden light.

Day4
Sossusvlei → Swakopmund (±3.5 hrs via Solitaire)
Desert to Coast
Drive north through the Gaub and Kuiseb Canyons — part of the Namib-Naukluft Park, carved by ephemeral rivers through ancient rock. Stop at Solitaire for the famous apple strudel and a look at the rusting car sculptures. The road transitions from sand to gravel to tar as the Atlantic fog rolls in and the landscape greens. Arrive in Swakopmund by afternoon — settle in and explore the German colonial main street, the jetty, and the beach.

Day5
Swakopmund — Activities Day
The Adventure Capital of Namibia
Swakopmund sits between the oldest desert and the Atlantic Ocean and offers an extraordinary range of activities. Choose from quad biking on the dunes, sandboarding, kayaking with Cape fur seals at Walvis Bay, a catamaran dolphin cruise, dune hiking, or a guided Mondesa township tour. The Living Desert morning tour — tracking desert-adapted creatures (sidewinder snakes, golden moles, beetles) — is not to be missed. Evening dinner at one of the excellent Swakopmund restaurants.

Day6
Swakopmund → Etosha (±5.5 hrs via Outjo)
North to the Game Park
An early start for the long but scenically varied drive north. The road passes through the Damaraland foothills, the farming town of Outjo, and enters Etosha through the Anderson Gate. Afternoon game drive on arrival — sunset at the Okaukuejo waterhole, where elephant and rhino frequently appear. The floodlit waterhole operates through the night — a post-dinner watch from the viewing platform often produces some of the most memorable wildlife encounters of the entire trip.

Day7
Etosha → Windhoek (±6 hrs) or Depart
Dawn Drive & Departure
Rise at first light for a dawn game drive before the day heats up — early morning is peak activity time for predators and the light is extraordinary on the open pan. Check out and drive south to Windhoek for afternoon or evening flights home. Alternatively, spend a final night in Windhoek to explore the city's craft market and galleries before departing. Your Alux Travel contact will confirm your exact transfer timing based on your flight schedule.

Good to Know

Notes for this itinerary.

Drive distances
Namibia's roads are generally good tar and gravel. Drive times listed assume daylight travel at a relaxed pace with stops. A standard 4×4 or high-clearance vehicle is recommended for all our itineraries.
Best season
This itinerary works well year-round. May–October gives the best Etosha wildlife viewing. June–August mornings are cold but skies are perfectly clear. November–April brings some rain and lush green landscapes.
Want more time?
Add a night in Etosha for a second full game drive day, or extend in Sossusvlei to climb Big Daddy and visit Hidden Vlei. See our 10-day itinerary for a more relaxed pacing of this same route.
All logistics arranged
We arrange all lodge bookings, park permits, vehicle rental or guided transport, and provide a detailed day-by-day route map and contact sheet. You won't need to figure out a single thing on the ground.

Common Questions About the 7-day Route

What is the best time of year for the 7-day Namibia safari route?
May through October delivers the most reliable wildlife viewing and clear skies, with cool mornings and dry game-tracking conditions. June, July, and August are peak season; April, May, and September offer similar weather at lower lodge rates.

Can the 7-day itinerary be customised?
Yes — every itinerary is custom-built. The 7-day template covers Sossusvlei, Swakopmund, and Etosha; we routinely swap lodges, add a scenic flight, extend a stop by a night, or substitute Damaraland for Swakopmund based on traveller priorities.

What fitness level does the 7-day route require?
Modest. The most demanding activity is climbing Big Daddy or Dune 45 at Sossusvlei, which is optional. Game drives are vehicle-based with short walks at viewpoints. Travellers with mobility constraints can still enjoy the route — we adapt activities accordingly.

Is there a single-traveller supplement for the 7-day safari?
Yes. Most lodges charge a single supplement of 30–50% over the per-person twin-share rate. Solo travellers receive a tailored quote that itemises the supplement at every property in the route.

What is the deposit and final-payment schedule?
A 25–30% deposit confirms the booking. The balance is due 60 days before arrival. Cancellation terms scale with proximity to travel — full details accompany every quote.

Are international flights to Namibia included?
No. Quotes cover all in-country transport, accommodation, guiding, and listed activities. We can arrange international flights at cost on request, but most travellers book these independently for flexibility on routing and frequent-flyer programmes.
